21st CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER

This is a notice to members of the community of the Moultrie YMCA's intent to apply for a
21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the US Department of Education.

21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) proved itself once again as a successful after school program for the 2010-2011 school year. The program will begin a third year of operation with the Moultrie YMCA through a grant from the Georgia Department of Education this fall.

The Georgia Department of Education bases performance of the grant on five key indicators which include CRCT scores in reading and in math, grade increases in reading and in math and teacher reported improvement in the classroom. In addition to these indicators, five objectives must be met as well. These five objectives include Georgia CRCT tests, report card grades, homework completion, parent involvement and social /resistance skills. Not only did the Moultrie YMCA’s 21st CCLC meet the five objectives, the five additional indicators met and exceeded the state average for 21st CCLC sites across Georgia.

21st CCLC provides academic enrichment in math and reading using two area specific curricula. 21st CCLC, through the Moultrie YMCA, employs Certified Teachers in every grade level and also has Youth Development Leaders present in each classroom. A need for improvement in Colquitt County has allowed the Georgia Department of Education to expand grant funds for a second 21st CCLC site in Moultrie. This site, located at Friendship Alliance Church, will accommodate 72 students from Cox Elementary.

To attend the after school program, a child must be enrolled in Norman Park, Odom or Cox and a teacher referral must be made to Misty Trouille, Moultrie YMCA 21st CCLC Site Director. Referrals will begin being accepted at the start of the school year, August 8. The program will begin operating September 6.
