21st Century Community Learning Center
21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) builds a well-rounded student, providing enrichment for math and reading, music, arts, SPARKS, and also focuses on character development. During a new five-year grant cycle, the YMCA will partner with Cox, Stringfellow, Sunset and Okapilco elementary schools to work with students referred by teachers for the program, based on their academic needs.
21st CCLC follows the Colquitt County Board School System calendar and operates September through May, Monday through Friday, after school until 5:30 pm. Students are bused from their elementary school to their school’s designated afterschool site. Through partnerships with First Baptist Moultrie and Friendship Alliance Church, along with a new YMCA South Campus site, the Y is able to provide a safe learning environment for these students. 21st CCLC, through the Moultrie YMCA, employs Certified Teachers in every grade level and also has Youth Development Leaders present in each classroom for instruction.
The Georgia Department of Education recognized the need for improvement in Colquitt County and granted funds for four 21st CCLC sites in Moultrie. The Moultrie YMCA, one of only two YMCAs that received the grant for the years 2014-2019, will receive a total of 3.8 million Federal dollars through the entirety of the grant period. The Moultrie YMCA has received the 21st CCLC grant since 2009, providing afterschool enrichment to students in the Colquitt County School System.
To attend the after school program, a child must be enrolled in the eligible elementary schools and a teacher referral must be made to Misty Trouille or Janet David, Moultrie YMCA 21st CCLC Site Directors. Referrals are accepted year round.
SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM
Each summer, the Y takes part in a feeding program for camp participants. On these days, campers do not need to bring a sack lunch unless a meal from home is preferred.
