Y Mentor Program

The Moultrie YMCA
invites YOU to invest in the life of a young
person
in your community by becoming a Mentor.

Who mentors?

Dependable and caring people that want to help a young person recognize their potential. Some of our partners include: Peer Mentors at Colquitt County High School, Magnolia Manor South Nursing Center, Southwest Georgia Bank and numerous other businesses, churches, and volunteers throughout the community.

Why mentor?

Many of our youth need additional positive influences in their life. Some kids come from families under pressure because of poverty, divorce, substance abuse, and violence, while others just need extra support. We show our mentees that we care-something each youth needs to know if they are to develop emotionally, socially, and academically. Because we focus on building relationships, we have a chance to touch a young person's life and directly affect their future.

Where do we mentor?

YMentors is a school-based mentoring program that asks mentors to visit during school hours or during the YMCA PRIMETIME hours. YMentors and our local school system agree mentoring on school grounds is a safe location for both parties. We understand how busy life can be, so we work to suit the mentor's time and schedule. Every school in Colquitt County participates in the program, including the Achievement Center and Pathways.

How long do I mentor?

Consistency is the key to building a trusting relationship so we ask mentors to spend 45 minutes of quality time each week with their mentee. (High school mentors try to make 3 visits a month.) We do ask each mentor to commit to 1 school year, but because friendships are created, many mentors continue to follow their students for several years.
